Antique shell locket. Mother of Pearl Victorian locket
£165.00
sold out
An incredibly rare Victorian locket/keepsake made from a mother of pearl shell that a master craftsperson set with an ornate Pinchbeck or rolled gold framed to make it into a functional and very beautiful piece of jewellery.
Shells like these were often made into small purses, but this is the only one I've ever seen formed into a locket for wearing on a necklace. Despite its delicacy, it's in great condition, with the frame fitting perfectly and opening and closing with a pleasing click.
Around 3cm in length.
